S/4 HANA Demo Series: 03 – TM Shortcut Planning and Rule 11 Rail Scenario
Introduction:
Rule 11 is established by the Association of American Railroads and is followed by all rail
carriers in the United States. It is intended for use by the rail industry to protect confidential
prices and/or meet customer requirements by providing multiple freight bills on shipments
covered by a through Bill of Lading. Also, if a rail movement includes more than one rail roads,
then the shipper can receive individual invoices from each railroads involved.
Short cut planning is function in SAP Transportation Management that automatically creates
freight orders without creating freight units during freight unit building. This is typically used
when the sales order or its line items are entered for rail car quantities. In this case there is no
need for any optimizer planning, and we can create Freight order directly as each line item or
order represents a full shipment. This process can significantly simplify overall process and
automate the SAP TM process.
Demo:
This demo showcases shortcut planning to create a Rail Freight Order directly from a Sales Order
without needing a freight unit. Additionally, the default route option is used to automatically select
routes and carriers. Delivery is created from TM, and PGI is completed. FSDs for each carrier are
posted, and invoices are received via the MIRO transaction. For many customers, rail scenarios are
less complex, and SAP TM’s advanced features can simplify the process, allowing business users
more time to focus on other activities during the day.
