SAP Advanced Shipping and Receiving (ASR) is a streamlined, end-to-end process for transporting and warehousing products. ASR simplifies communication between various application components embedded in SAP S/4HANA: Transportation Management (TM), Extended Warehouse Management (EWM), Inventory Management (MM-IM), Sales and Distribution (SD), and Delivery Management (LE-SHP).
A Stock Transport Order (STO) facilitates the movement of materials between plants or warehouses within the same organization. In this process, an outbound delivery is created in S/4HANA to execute the shipping activities, and once goods issue is posted, an inbound delivery is automatically generated to receive the stock at the destination.
During the creation of a stock transport order (STO), it is important that the supplying plant confirms a realistic delivery date and loading start date to the receiving plant. This confirmation supports accurate planning of material availability and production schedules at the receiving plant.
In SAP TM, freight order creation can be planned through multiple approaches. Planners may build FOs manually in the Transportation Cockpit or rely on optimizer-based planning, which automatically creates FOs using lane definitions and means of transport.
