Introduction:

BN4L Dock Appointment Scheduling (DAS) is a solution designed to streamline and optimize warehouse dock operations by scheduling and managing inbound and outbound truck appointments. It provides real-time visibility into dock availability, reduces congestion, improves resource utilization, and enhances coordination between carriers, warehouse personnel, and transportation teams. By enabling efficient appointment planning and execution, DAS helps organizations improve warehouse productivity, reduce turnaround times, and ensure smooth logistics operations.

Based on SAP Business Network for Logistics (BN4L) Dock Appointment Scheduling capabilities integrated with SAP Transportation Management (SAP TM), this demo showcases the end-to-end collaboration process between the shipper and carrier for scheduling outbound dock appointments.

The process begins with transportation planning in SAP TM, where a Freight Order is created, and a carrier is manually assigned. The Freight Order is then shared with the carrier through SAP Business Network for Logistics (BN4L), where the carrier reviews and confirms the transportation assignment.

Before appointments are scheduled, the shipper manages dock availability by configuring loading point schedules, business hours, and block times for planned maintenance or downtime. These configurations ensure that only available dock capacity is presented for appointment booking.

Once the Freight Order is confirmed, the carrier proceeds with dock appointment scheduling in SAP Business Network for Logistics. The carrier searches the available dock time slots and books an appointment based on the warehouse’s available capacity and operational schedule. The shipper can then review the scheduled appointment through the SAP BN4L Shipper tenant, gaining real-time visibility into dock appointments, maintenance windows, downtimes, and multiple dock assignments.

Any appointment creation, update, or cancellation is communicated through automated email notifications to the relevant stakeholders, enabling timely collaboration between shippers and carriers. The scheduled appointment details—including the appointment date and time—are synchronized back to the Freight Order in SAP TM, allowing transportation planners to view the latest dock appointment information directly within the Freight Order
