Introduction:<\/strong><\/p>

SAP Advanced Shipping and Receiving (ASR) is a streamlined, end-to-end process for transporting and warehousing products. ASR simplifies communication between various application components embedded in SAP S\/4HANA: Transportation Management (TM), Extended Warehouse Management (EWM), Inventory Management (MM-IM), Sales and Distribution (SD), and Delivery Management (LE-SHP).\u00a0 The Advanced Shipping and Receiving process is based on the TM freight order (FO) and doesn\u2019t use the EWM transportation unit (TU) or the EWM vehicle.<\/p>

In Session 2<\/a>, we showcased an outbound process using the ASR framework, walking through the end\u2011to\u2011end steps for shipping from a warehouse managed by SAP TM and EWM, including delivery splitting. In this session, we will showcase the SAP Best Practice inbound scenario using Advanced TM\u2013EWM integration with the ASR framework (7VE).<\/p>

For an OEM, materials are sourced from multiple suppliers, and transportation may be arranged either per supplier or consolidated under an OEM\u2011negotiated carrier to leverage lower freight rates. In this scenario, supplier factory ASNs are used to automatically create consignment orders. In SAP TM, a consignment order represents a business document that group several transportation requirements based on certain criteria, such as the same source and destination location, the same delivery date\/time, and the same business partner. Inbound deliveries are then generated from these consignment orders manually or via batch jobs. Shipment ASNs from carrier\/LSPs trigger freight order creation in TM, which then drives the ASR process for check\u2011in, unloading, goods receipt, and check\u2011out at the warehouse or plant. Handling unit data is also transferred through the ASN interface, eliminating manual HU creation during receipt. After GR, the RF\u2011driven put away process completes the end\u2011to\u2011end flow.<\/p>

While the process may appear complex, it significantly reduces manual effort, improves data accuracy, and enables early detection and resolution of discrepancies between supplier\/LSP data and actual received goods.
